Oslo University Hospital (OUS) is Scandinavia’s largest university hospital and a leading centre for highly specialised healthcare, research, and medical education. It provides regional, national, and multi-regional services, with a strong focus on advanced patient care and the development of tomorrow’s medicine in close collaboration with patients.
Most paediatric services are organised within the Division of Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine, which forms the basis of OUS’s participation in ECHO. This division is central to delivering specialised care for children and adolescents, while also contributing significantly to clinical research and innovation.
A major development is the construction of a new hospital campus, scheduled for completion in 2031, which will include a dedicated Children and Adolescent Centre. This centre will co-locate nearly all paediatric medical and surgical services, including emergency care, outpatient clinics, day-care units, and inpatient wards, strengthening integrated care for children and young people. Mental health services not related to somatic conditions will remain at a separate site.
The hospital’s mission is to develop tomorrow’s medicine in cooperation with patients, guided by the core values of quality, safety, and respect. OUS is responsible for approximately half of all hospital-based medical research in Norway, reflecting its strong academic and scientific role.
As a member of ECHO, Oslo University Hospital contributes extensive expertise in highly specialised paediatric and adolescent medicine, advanced clinical research, and health system innovation. The hospital actively participates in PREM-PED and plays a key role in strengthening Nordic and European collaboration in paediatric healthcare and research.
