The ECHO Data Rulebook was developed to support safer and more efficient sharing of health data across European children’s hospitals. The project established a clear legal, ethical, and technical foundation to enable responsible access to and use of health information, helping hospitals collaborate on research, benchmarking, and improving clinical outcomes.
By defining standardised principles and guidelines, the Data Rulebook aimed to remove barriers to data exchange while ensuring compliance with GDPR and protecting patient privacy. The result was a practical reference tool that supports secure data collaboration across the ECHO network and beyond.
